WB doubtful about 7.5% GDP
The World Bank is doubtful about the 7.5% estimate of Bangladesh’s gross domestic product (GDP) in the Fiscal year 2015-16.

“The question is about whether the official estimate is consistent with other growth related indicators,” said Zahid Hussain, lead economist of the World Bank said on Saturday.

He also said economy requires focus on sustainable and inclusive growth.

He mande the statements while addressing a programme of releasing Bangladesh Development Update at World Bank’s Agargaon office in Dhaka.

He questioned how the total GDP growth increased this year and said that 14 out of 15 indicators have obtained less success in between July 2015 and February, 2016 than FY 2014-2015.

“Only exports indicator could see more achievement in FY 2016 compared to FY 2015,” said the economist.

He also analyzed that the government could achieved 14.4% of NBR and tax revenue between July 2015 and February 2016 where it was 16.2% during the period in last current fiscal.

The ADP implementation rate by this stands 41.1% while it was 43.8% last year, Hussain concluded.

The Bangladesh Development Update, April 2016 notes that Bangladesh economy remained strong and resilient despite external and internal challenges.
