Bangladesh’s exports up by 9 percent
Bangladesh’s export is up by 9 percent in the first three quarters of the 2015-16 fiscal comparing to the same period in the last fiscal year.

In the time range of July 2015 to March 2016, Bangladesh earned almost $25 billion from exports.

Apparel sector contributed the highest 82 percent, amounting $20.44 billion of the total exports, according to the Export Promotion Bureau’s latest figures released on Tuesday say.

Out of the $20.44 billion fetched by the apparel sector so far in this fiscal, woven garments contributed $10.76 billion, growing by 12.64 from last year.

Among others, Drug manufacturers’ saw a rise of 14 percent growth while the ship builders’ earnings grew by 9 percent.

However, shrimps export dropped by 15.25 percent, while leather sector saw a 30 percent drop and bicycles declined by 25.57 percent.

Bangladesh’s once main earning sector farming also shrunk as tea exports fell by 39 percent, fruits and vegetables by over 40 percent.

The business leaders and analysts of the country hoped that if the export rise continue like this the target of $50 billion export by 2021 will not be impossible.

However, they also urged to focus on every sector and to analyze why export dropped in the sectors.
