Premier League: Prime Doleshwar, Prime Bank, Abahani pick up victories
Prime Doleshwar Sporting Club cruised to the top of the points table after a convincing eight-wicket win against Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club in Fatullah. Prime Doleshwar are unbeaten in three games.

Medium-pacer Farhad Reza picked up four wickets after Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondiwere asked to bat. They were bowled out for 99 runs in 27.1 overs.

Farhad took the wickets of Joyraz Sheik, Nazmus Sadat, Mahmudullah and Sohag Gazi while left-arm spinner Sunzamul Islam took three wickets. Al-Amin Hossain contributed with two early wickets.

Angelo Perera (33) and Mahmudullah (24) were the only batsmen to manage a double-digit score.

Offspinner Gazi removed Imtiaz Hossain off the first ball but Prime Doleshwar romped to the target in 20.1 overs. Raqibul Hasan (53*) and Chamara Silva (27*) shared an unbeaten 65-run partnership.

Saqlain Sajib’s six and four in the last over got Abahani Limited to a two-wicket win over Brothers Union at the BKSP-3 ground. He was involved in a match-winning 31-run unbroken stand for the ninth wicket with Jubair Hossain after Abahani were reduced to 217 for 8 in the 48th over in their chase of 245.

Saqlain and Jubair, the unlikely batting heroes as both are tail-enders, were unbeaten on 20 off 14 and 19 off 10 respectively. Saqlain struck a six and a four while Jubair collected two fours and a six. Before their partnership, it was Uday Kaul’s patient 59 and Mosaddek Hossain’s contribution of 47 that set the base for their chase.

Earlier, Jubair also took four wickets as Brothers Union suffered a collapse that saw them slip to 149 for 6 despite cruising on 128 for 1. Taskin Ahmed also chipped in with two wickets. Imrul Kayes made 69 off 82 balls with seven fours and a six, before lower-order contributions from Nur Alam (39) and Sadiqur Rahman (38*) took them to a respectable score.

Prime Bank Cricket Club captain Shuvagata Hom put on an all-round show to help his side to a 47-run win over Kalabagan Krira Chakra in Mirpur.

He top-scored with a 54-ball 60 that had six fours and two sixes as Prime Bank were all out for 280 in 48.4 overs. Sabbir Rahman and Taibur Rahman also struck fifties while the Kalabagan captain Mashrafe Mortaza, suffering from high fever, took 4 for 56 in his 10 overs.

Kalabagan began well in the chase with openers Shadman Islam and Jasimuddin adding 79 but both were trapped leg-before by left-arm spinner Monir Hossain in the 17th over. Mehrab Hossain jnr and Hamilton Masakadza added 64 for the third wicket before Shuvagata caught Mehrab brilliantly at short midwicket after the left-handed batsman tried to chip one over Shuvagata’s head. But Shuvagata leapt high and kept the ball in play before turning and completing the catch.

When Maskadza fell after scoring 61 off 72 balls, Kalabagan’s hopes ended and they folded for 233 runs in 45.4 overs. Left-arm spinner Raihan Uddin, who made his one-day debut, took four wickets while Rubel Hossain, Shuvagata and Monir took two each.
