The High Court on Thursday decided that Khaleda Zia’s two petitions challenging a lower court order that had rejected her two applications in the Zia Charitable Trust graft case will be heard by the regular bench of the court.
The HC vacation bench of Justice Md Miftah Uddin Choudhury and Justice Khizir Ahmed Choudhury confirmed that the regular bench will sit on May 2 as the court is currently on vacation.
According to Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) counsel Khurshid Alam Khan, the petitions would now be sent to the department concerned of the HC to assign a regular bench.
Earlier, Dhaka Special Judge’s Court 3, which has been holding the trial of the case, had set April 25 for the next hearing in the case.
On April 17, Khaleda’s counsels submitted two applications before the trial court in the presence of the BNP chief which were rejected. Then they moved to the High Court on April 18 seeking revision against the rejection order.
The BNP Chairperson filed one of the petitions for re-cross examination of the investigation officer (IO) of the Zia Charitable Trust graft case while she filed the other for scrutinizing the case diary of the IO.
Khaleda Zia also prayed to stay the trial proceedings against her in the graft case.
