Bangladesh wants OIC initiative to strengthen unity among Muslim Ummah
Bangladesh has proposed for an OIC initiative to settle the differences within member states in a bid to strengthen the unity of the Muslim Ummah.

Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali, the foreign minister of Bangladesh read the speech at the OIC summit in Istambul on behalf of the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

He also led the Bangladesh delegation at the 13th summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) that ended on Friday.

In this year’s summit, around 30 Heads of governments and foreign ministers of over 20 countries joined the meet, themed on “Unity and Solidarity for Justice and Peace”.

Issues like internal conflicts, sectarianism, terrorism, Islamophobia, problem of Palestine, poverty etc were discussed in the summit.

They have agreed to work for joint Islamic action that the OIC would pursue over the next three years.

At the end of the summit, leaders under the new chairmanship of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan adopted several documents -Resolution on Palestine, OIC 2025: Programme of Action, Final Communiqué and the Istanbul Declaration, among them.

Bangladesh PM called for the implementation of the OIC-2025 Programme of Action to eradicate poverty.

She referred to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s call for unity and solidarity within the Muslim Ummah issued during the second OIC Summit in 1974.

Sheikh Hasina also mentioned her government efforts to fight terrorism and violent extremism.
