Polling cancelled at three Satkhira centres, suspended at 16 others
Amid violence and irregularities, the authorities have cancelled polling at three centres under Kumira Union Parishad (UP) and suspended voting at another 16 in Satkhira.

Tala Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Mahabubur Rahman confirmed these reports.

The centres where polling has been cancelled even before it began are Bhagbah, Avaytala and Kadpur.

The Election Commission will decide when these centres will go to re-polling, said the UNO.

At Bhagbah centre, a local Awami League leader and his brother were shot in a clash with police while the ruling party men were stuffing the ballot boxes early Tuesday.

In Chandanpur UP under Kolaroa Upazila, Freedom Fighter Shajahan Ali, a chairman candidate with Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal’s ticket, said he had submitted complaints to the returning officer over irregularities at five voting centres there.

More than 1.4 million voters are exercising their franchise at 78 UPs of seven Upazilas of the district.

More than 3,000 personnel of police, Ansar and Border Guard Bangladesh have been deployed in the district to maintain law and order, Inspector (Special Branch) Mizanur Rahman has said.
