Two BRAC (Bangladesh Rural Advancement Committee) officials working in Afghanistan have been abducted by unidentified gunmen.
The BNP has thanked the authorities for being allowed to use a portion of Dhaka’s Suhrawardy Udyan to hold its National Council. It has sought more government help during its 6th National Council, to be inaugurated on Saturday. “We were worried that the Institute of Engineers wasn’t big enough to accommodate everyone,” said BNP Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi in a press brief at Naya Paltan. “We sought permission for three venues including Bangabandhu International Conference Centre but the government was not telling us anything.” “But finally we have the permission to use the Suhrawardy Udyan that’s next to the Institute of Engineers. We are grateful to the relevant authorities for giving us permission.” Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) cleared the request Thursday afternoon. Ruhul Kabir Rizvi Ruhul Kabir Rizvi BNP leaders and ordinary people were ‘excited’ about BNP’s National Council being held after a gap of six years, Rizvi said. “Nothing will go against our council if the government decides not to intervene. We request their full assistance tomorrow (Saturday). ” BNP councillors and representatives were already in Dhaka and have been collecting their cards from the party’s Naya Paltan headquarters, he said. “The BNP will emerge stronger after the council and contribute in establishing a democratic government.”
