SIM re-registration deadline extended till May 31
The government has extended the time for biometric SIM re-registration by a month.

The re-registration which was scheduled to end today (April 30), has been extended to May 31.

State Minister for Posts and Telecommunications Tarana Halim made the announcement at a media briefing at Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) office Saturday afternoon.

“From May 1 to May 31 all the unregistered SIMs will be deactivated for 3 hours once. This is a reminder of re-registration,” she said.

“But if the SIMs remain unregistered after May 31, those will be permanently deactivated,” she added.

Those subscribers, whose fingerprints did not match with NID database, were requested to submit their fingerprints at 570 offices of Election Commission across the country.

Tarana also ordered the telecom operators to take special measures for the physically challenged people.

While asked about the server failure, she replied, “The national identity database (NID) authorities could not think of such tremendous last minute pressure.”

So far, 8.9 crore subscribers have completed biometric re-registration.
