Shafik Rehman remanded over ‘plot to abduct and murder’ Joy

A Dhaka court on Saturday approved a five-day remand for Shafik Rehman in connection with the case of attempting to kill Sajeeb Wazed.
Noted journalist Shafik Rahman was presented before a CMM court with a seven-day remand plea.
Head of Dhaka DB’s south zone, Masrukur Rahman Khalid, confirmed the incident.
The DB officials left their headquarters at Mintoo Road around 2pm with Shafik Rehman.
Ther former editor of the Bangla daily Jaijaidin was picked up by plainclothesmen from his house in Dhaka’s Eskaton on Saturday morning.
BNP denounced the arrest and announced tough programmes if he is not released immidieately.
Mashrukur Rahman, deputy commissioner of the detective branch, in charge of Dhaka South, confirmed his arrest saying that Rehman has been shown arrested in a case from August 2015, for conspiring to abduct and murder Sajeeb Wazed Joy, son of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Rehman was taken to the Detective Branch headquarters on Mintoo Road after he was detained, he said.
The case was filed by DB Inspector Fazlur Rahman with the Paltan police in August, 2015. The inspector had named BNP’s cultural wing JaSaS Vice-President Mohammad Ullah Mamun and a number of unidentified BNP leaders.
A US court sentenced JaSaS leader Mamun’s son Rizve Ahmed Caesar on March 4, 2015 for his involvement in bribery scheme to obtain confidential information from a former FBI special agent in New York.
