Bangladesh is all set to celebrate “Pahela Baishakh”, Bengali New Year, 1423 amid much enthusiasm.
Several socio-cultural organizations including government institutions have taken many programs to celebrate the occasion.
In rural areas, business communities will open their traditional ‘Halkhata’, new account books to welcome the Bengali New year.
Marking the occasion, President M Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina have issued separate messages to greet the people.
In Dhaka, the day’s program will begin with the musical soiree of Chhayanat, a leading cultural organization of the country at Ramna Batamul at dawn.
Bangladesh Television, Bangladesh Betar and private TV channels will telecast program live.
People will gather around Dhaka University campus, Ramna Park, Suhrawardy Uddyan, Rabindra Sarobor and other places where the cultural programs take places.
They will also enjoy traditional breakfast of ‘panta bhat’ (soaked rice), green chilies, onion, and fried fish marking the occasion.
In the morning, traditional ‘Mongol Shobhajatra’ will start from Charukola Institute of Dhaka University where thousands of people will participate.
Apart from Dhaka, many organizations from other places of the country have taken programs to celebrate the occasion.
