UN, EU condemn Nazim murder, call for swift arrest
The United Nations and European Union in Bangladesh have condemned the killing of online activist Nazim Uddin Samad.

“This attack demonstrates that this new killing is clearly part of a growing trend which undermines the freedom of expression and opinion in Bangladesh,” UN Resident Coordinator in Bangladesh Robert Watkins said in a statement.

Urging the authorities to arrest the culprits behind this murder quickly, Watkins said the UN continues “to call for thorough investigations to bring the perpetrators of these crimes to justice”.

Meanwhile, the EU Ambassador to Bangladesh, Pierre Mayaudon, firmly condemned the killing as well.

Ambassador Mayaudon said that freedom of expression is a fundamental human right and emphasizes the need for tolerance and respect for differing views.

“I support all efforts to ensure that citizens of Bangladesh may express their views freely and without fear,” Mayaudon said in a statement.

Both Ambassador Mayaudon and Robert Watkins conveyed their condolences to the family of Nazimuddin Samad and hoped  that thorough investigation will bring the perpetrators of this crime to justice.
